Metro Coalition of Congregations Hosts Listening Training

Mcclistening
Forty people gathered at a listening training in Madison Heights.

On Saturday, staff from the Harriet Tubman Center conducted a half day training for 40 clergy and lay people from congregations across suburban Detroit.

The training, hosted by the Metro Coalition of Congregations (MCC), provided clergy and lay leaders tools and techniques for building a sense of community in their institutions and neighborhoods.  The attendees learned how to conduct one-on-ones, a crucial organizing tool.  They also discussed how their congregation will benefit from joining the MCC.

As a next step to building the MCC, attendees committed to hosting a "Faith and Financial Justice" summit on November 17th.  The summit will explore the impact that the financial crisis is having on suburban communities, and actions that the faith community can take to reverse these trends.  For information on the MCC, contact Tubman Organizer Luke Allen: luke[dot]allen[at]tubmanorganizing[dot]org.
